The Sugarloaf Parkway extension will improve cross-county connectivity in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Previously, Sugarloaf Parkway extended from Peachtree Industrial Boulevard NW in western Gwinnett, north of Duluth, to S.R. 20/Grayson Highway SW south of Lawrenceville. Now, the parkway has been extended to New Hope Road SE, which has added about two miles to the road's length. The master plan is to extend Sugarloaf Parkway four additional miles to intersect University Parkway/S.R. 316, which is one of the major routes used in accessing the University of Georgia and Athens-Clarke County.
The parkway west of S.R. 20 is an at-grade, traffic light-ridden divided facility. The eastern portion will be six miles of limited-access roadway, once completed.
